Rally3 wrote :Ok so essay time. Right now, there's only 2 gameplay styles encouraged: law enforcement and cop hunting. Not even criminal as in rob shops, try to do it while getting away, etc. Just cophunting, and hunting the cophunters. That's it. How can this be possible, u may ask, if the server has so many more classes and so many more features? How come people don't want to use those classes and features but rather stick to only 2 out of the 10+ possibilities?
The reason why this happens is centralization of groups, but also lack of thought when doing/commenting on suggestions. I'll use https://ls-rcr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=620&p=930213#p929864 as a suggestion. This feature is quoted as an "alternative" to breaking someone out of alcatraz. First of all, lets consider what breaking someone out of alcatraz is right now.
Here's the gameplay rundown on breaking someone out of alca rn:
- You need to go get a friend (2+ players required to break out of alca)
- You need to go get the items you need (go to a 24/7 or items dealer)
- You then need to go to alcatraz via land/air/water/tp (tp as in fly there from a checkpoint)
- Then you need to be in a vehicle outside
- One of you needs to go in, and try to break
- Only then is a player allowed to break out, if it is successful
- And then now the criminals have all got wanted levels and are encouraging cop vs criminal gameplay.
So now that we have that cleared out, lets consider what this suggestion is. It is quoted to be an "alternative", but even so, it effectively cuts off all of these gameplay elements listed above. The reasoning "but its just an alternative" is not a justification. Players will take the shortcut 9/10 times, leading to the monotonous, simple gameplay we have today.
To offer an example on the point that players will stop using features as long as theres a "lazy shortcut" for it, lets consider the following. More older players will know that back in the day you'd have to request drugs from a drug dealer or even go to the drug depots yourself (these are the places marked with a D on the map). Now, when the drug racks were added on the group bases, they were just what this alternative way to go break someone out of alcatraz is right, an alternative. Fast forward a couple of years now and you can see that nobody, and I mean nobody, uses the drug depots at all.
Why does this happen? When you offer a player a shortcut and do not incentive the "old way" whether it is by fun, or by other means, they will always take the shortcut. So what this suggestion will effectively lead to is to have players avoid the gameplay elements rn for breaking someone out of alcatraz, which is a unique mechanic our server has, and you all want to ruin it out of your laziness.
These types of suggestions are extremely dangerous for the server: when stuff is tried to be oversimplified or gameplay to be centralized to this ridiculous extent of where all you have to do is /gspawn and you effectively have access to weapons, items, drugs, vehicles, and a cool "isolated" way to have duels, what you're doing is discouraging all other types of gameplay. The discouragement of other types of gameplay is to what leads to stuff like when it is "night time" and the player count drops, everyone starts to not know what to do or to say that they're bored and leave, etc. This should not happen.
Why aren't players using the medic classes? Why aren't they using the trucker and taxi classes? Why aren't they using even some of the criminal skills, such as the Private Lawyer one, when it has a clear beneficial use?
The answer to all of those questions is suggestions like the ones that have been made to get us to this point. When you think of a suggestion with the aim of "being an alternative" or even worse, from the standpoint of "I'm lazy to do this so lets make a short monotonous way to do it - as a command for example", then you are effectively killing parts of our server gameplay little by little, or worse, by large amounts like groups do.
